Dexter and the Bay Harbor Butcher
While season one of Dexter dealt primarily with the Ice Truck Killer, the second season became Dexter’s nightmare after his underwater gravesite was discovered by a school of diving students. The case became known as the Bay Harbor Butcher killings, a name that Dexter hates. However, as the killer, he can’t protest too loudly. The uncovering of his victims bodies simply added to the stress that Dexter was facing. He had recently killed his brother Brian Moser/Rudy Cooper, he was having trouble coming to grips with the lies of Harry, and he was off his game when it came time to hunt and kill his new victims. Through it all Sgt. James Doakes made it difficult for him to live his life as he previously had, because he stalked Dexter daily. The world knew of his crimes and the people he killed and Dexter had to keep a low profile as law enforcement tried to the find their newest serial killer. To deal with the influx of human remains and corpses Miami PD requested and received the help of the FBI. The case was now federal and being led by the “Rock Star” of the team. Frank Lundy was an FBI agent who was known for finding serial killers and solving the toughest federal cases. Dexter would have a hard time getting past this new adversary. Frank Lundy was smart and often steered the case in the right direction, even as Dexter tried to put new obstacles in their way. The pressure and potential capture began to take its toll on Dexter and he made dangerous mistakes that could cost him everything. As he stood over his new victim, Dexter could not take his life. He found it hard to kill a guilty blind man who could not see to defend himself. With his next mistake Dexter was almost exposed as he tried to take down a gang member known as Little Chino. With a deceptive name, Chino was a gargantuan of a man and it would be hard for Dexter to take him down on an even playing field. Using the same methods that he has practiced for more than a decade, Dexter attempted to rid the world of Chino but the large man was too much for the tape and tarps and he broke free and escaped with his life. Dexter eventually stops the dangerous gang member but it took repeated trial and error before Dexter got his man. To get rid of his victims and their dismembered body parts, Dexter would take his boat out to the deepest part of the Bay, but now he had to think of another way to hide his crimes. His new method was similar but this time, Dexter travelled to deeper waters. The strong currents would move the garbage bags down stream across multiple states and eventually the ocean. With his new dumping ground created, Dexter appeared to be back in the swing of things, but he still needed to point the police in the wrong direction as searched for the Bay Harbor Butcher. His attempts failed and the anonymous manifesto alerted Agent Lundy to the fact that the Butcher worked for the police. All eyes were on the Miami PD and Dexter feared that they would expose his dark secrets to the world. PPPPP Word Count 553
