Dexter’s Crimes Reaches the Surface
When Dexter’s underwater dumping ground is discovered by a school of divers, his whole life changes. He would have to lay low and be even stealthier as he hunted and killed future victims. The stress of the past and present caused him to make many mistakes as his world unraveled. The moment that his crimes reached the surface, Dexter had to immediately worry about getting caught. He had to worry about his coworkers finding out that he was the recently named “Bay Harbor Butcher”. Dexter knew that deep down many people would appreciate what he had done. He removed horrible people from the population at large. He also knew that most people would hide their satisfaction as popular culture deems it bad to take a life, any life. Debra Morgan was still damaged and emotionally unstable after her torment at the hands of Brian Moser, the secret long lost brother of Dexter. She went back to work before she was ready and without the proper psychiatric treatments that she desperately needed. With the new serial killings, Debra was excited because she felt that it could help her get over the Ice Truck Killer. She would go after the Bay Harbor Butcher with everything she had. This was additional stress for Dexter as he now had his sister to deal with. Considering that the Bay Harbor Butcher appeared to be ten times worse than their previous serial killer, the Miami PD felt that it was best to ask for outside help. He contacted and received the aid of the FBI, who sent over their top field agent, Frank Lundy. Dexter knew that Lundy was good and would eventually get onto his trail if he did not attempt to throw him off. However, Lundy was too good, and it became apparent that the tricks he would normally use to trick law enforcement would not work on this new agent. With his old underwater grave site discovered, Dexter had to think of new and private ways to get rid of recent victims. He decided to stick with his old methods but he moved them further away from shore and they would eventually disappear, thanks to a gulf stream. Whenever his problems seem to lesson they eventually reemerged, worse than before. Dexter sent a fake manifesto of the Bay Harbor Butcher to throw the police and FBI agents off his trail. The book appeared to be working but since Dexter had added so many different phrases that he picked off the internet, many different people were able to identify them. This caused a bit of confusion as everyone tried to argue their feelings about the manifesto. Being a great agent, Lundy immediately picked up on what the Butcher intended. He knew that the serial killer sent the book to them as a distraction, and it almost worked. Unfortunately for Dexter, Lundy also realized that the killer had to be someone in law enforcement. He went after criminals, many of whom should have been sent to prison. He sent the manifesto when he had always avoided contact with the public previously, and new evidence pointed to someone not only in law enforcement, but in the same precinct that was handling the Bay Harbor Butcher case. The discovery of his many victims also turned up the heat with Sgt. James Doakes. He stalked Dexter more than usual and eventually broke into his apartment and found his slide filled trophies. Once his victims were discovered, Dexter’s life appeared to be ending one day at a time. PPPPP Word Count 589
