Dexter Season One Recap

By day Dexter works closely with law enforcement and he is often known as a lab geek and blood spatter expert. Once he leaves work, Dexter is on the hunt for murderers who got away with their crimes. With the help of the code created by his adopted father Harry Morgan, Dexter moves from one guilty victim to another without getting caught.

After we learn about Dexter, we immediately get into the case of the Ice Truck Killer. He is a new serial killer on the scene who murders prostitutes and dismembers their bodies after he drains it of blood. The killer throws a severed head at the car of Dexter and goes on to leave more clues to the past.

We meet Rita, the girlfriend of Dexter and she is soft spoken and still mentally damaged from the past abuses of her imprisoned husband. Dexter is wonderful to her and Rita is happy to finally have someone who cares for her and would never hurt her, while he systematically looks after and cares for two children Cody and Astor.

Lieutenant LaGuerta harasses Dexter slightly as she would love a relationship with him. Dexter would prefer that she stay far away from him. While she likes Dexter, LaGuerta hates his sister Debra and aims to make her life miserable. LaGuerta also has problems with her own boss, as he dislikes even though he was the one that promoted her. A series of battles between the two results in LaGuerta being demoted as a new female boss is hired.

Dexter has an adversary in Sgt. James Doakes. He is loud, outspoken and hates Dexter for reasons unknown. Doakes is often suspicious of Dexter when he has no real cause to be. Most of their discussions are one way as he yells at Dexter to do his job with the blood work. Dexter is unsure of why Doakes is suspicious of him, when no other police officer is. As the case heats up with the Ice Truck Killer, Doakes is even more suspicious as he feels that Dexter is somehow involved.

Debrah looks for love in all the wrong places as she dates and married man and then becomes seduced by the very killer that she is hunting. Rudy Cooper/Brian Moser is the Ice Truck Killer and he specifically targets Debrah as it is an easy way to get close to Dexter.

As Dexter eventually learns, the Ice Truck Killer is someone close to him. A long lost brother who Dexter never knew existed. The arrival of Brian Moser opened a long forgotten past for Dexter. His adopted father had told many lies and left out a lot of what he knew about Dexter’s past.
Dexter and Brian as children were forced to watch as their mother was murdered before their eyes. Harry Morgan adopted Dexter and tried to pretend that Brian did not exist. The fateful meeting between the two brothers meant that someone would have to die.
