Dexter Character Vince Masuka

With a personality like Masuka’s it’s strange to think that Doakes considers Dexter the creepiest person in their department. Vince is never serious and often drops lines with a straight face and deadpan humor, even if he’s standing over a dead body at the time.

At other times, Masuka is almost gleeful when he is called to a crime scene that is unique. Such was the case of the Ice Truck Killer. As Dexter comes onto the scene, Masuka explains that it’s weird to see the blood expert considering that the corpse had no blood. As Dexter is confused, he happily asks for the assistance of Angel Batista to show the body of the new victim. Masuka can be seen in the background grinning widely.

On this TV drama Vince Masuka is known best for his dirty puns and sexual references. He often turns the clean words of Deborah Morgan into salacious innuendos. Angel gets in on the playful banter when Masuka addresses Deborah by her last name. While everyone knows that he is talking to Deborah, as Angel points out, the pun could be intended for Dexter.

Most television shows has a character in place as the comedic relief and Masuka fits the bill. Beyond his endless innuendo’s, Masuka has a habit of making the oddest remarks in serious situations. While everyone searched for the Sgt. James Doakes because they thought he was the Bay Harbor Butcher, Masuka comments that he’s glad he took Doakes’ verbal abuse over the years instead of fighting back.

Later as everyone inspects a recent video of Doakes stopping at a gas station, Masuka notices what everyone else does not. He sees is in the three dollar range and he’s shocked that it’s so cheap. Dexter can only stare at him as everyone else is concentrating on catching the suspected serial killer.

After Dexter’s brother brings up the dead body of a woman Dexter had murdered the day before, Masuka makes his usual off topic quotes, does his forensics work on the body and then walks off mentioning that he’s hungry. The fact that he was just working with a corpse does not faze him.

Most of Masuka’s sexual overtures are usually intended for Dexter’s sister Deb Morgan. She has the mouth of a sailor and tends to share more information that she should with her co-workers. She puts up with Masuka but sometimes she finds him a little too odd. As she comments that taxidermy animals in a home is weird and psycho killer behavior, Masuka begs to differ as he has his own mummified El Chupacabra at home. This prompts Debrah Morgan to request Masuka’s fingerprints as he may be the killer they are looking for.

Dexter Morgan as a serial killer with secrets to hide likes to be alone and this has left him a bit naïve when it comes to current intimate quotes and phrases, of which Masuka appears to know them all. When Angel Batista and Masuka are in the same room together, they stray from safe topics into conversations about sex and relationships that leave Dexter extremely confused. Showtime’s Dexter is filled with a group of unforgettable character’s but Vince Masuka stands out ahead with the best lines and quotes of this dark drama.
